Battle Ball Walkthrough
Battle Ball is a sports game that combines the sport of American football with the gameplay dynamics of a board game. This football game features a futuristic setting, isometric graphics, and music that gets players pumped for gridiron action. Unfortunately, you can no longer enter the sweepstakes to win tickets to the 2004 Super Bowl.
The objective of Battle Ball is to score as many points as possible before the game ends. At the beginning of the game, you must select which team you wish to play for and the position that you wish to play. The team that you select does not matter, but the position that you choose will have a major effect on gameplay. If this is your first time playing this sports game, I advise you to select the linebacker position since it is well-balanced and provides a respectable amount of bonus points for tackling opponents.
Like most board games, Battle Ball has a complex set of rules. For your convenience, I will sum them up here. At the beginning of each turn, you must roll the virtual die in the lower-right corner of the screen by clicking the button labeled "Roll Now". You will be able to move the designated number of spaces. The left and right arrow keys are used to set the direction that you will move in (indicated by a small marker adjacent to your player) and the up arrow key moves in that direction. If your player moves next to a computer-controlled piece (or one of the computer's pieces moves next to yours) then a tackle-off will ensue. The player that rolls the lowest number wins the tackle-off. If you are tackled, you will lose one life and be placed back in the starting position; if you tackle the opposing player, they will be removed from the field and you will be able to take your next turn.
There are three ways to score in this sports game: advancing one space scores ten points, scoring touchdowns scores five hundred points, and tackling opposing players scores the designated number of points based on the position that you select. In order to gain the ten points for advancing, you must be moving closer to the end zone; moving backward or to the side will not earn points (although it is sometimes a good idea to do so to avoid being tackled). If you chose a player with high speed and low power, then you should attempt to avoid tackle-offs by evading opposing players and getting into the end zone as quickly as possible. If you choose a slow, powerful position, then you won't be able to avoid opposing players, but you will probably be able to win tackle-offs and power through the defenders.
Battle Ball is an interesting blend of American football and board games from the famous board game company, Milton Bradley. If you are a fan of the strategic element of the gridiron, then you will enjoy this unique sports game!
